Nicholaus E. Nikusekela

Nikusekela is a Development Economist, Evaluator, Trainer and Policy Analyst. Currently is pursuing a PhD in Agricultural Economics (Economic Policy and International Trade) of Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA). Has a Master Degree in Development Economics with Gender studies offered jointly by the Institute of Rural Development Planning (IRDP) in Tanzania and Wageningen University, the Netherlands and a BSc.  Agricultural Economics& Agribusiness of Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA).

Currently is working as a Managing Director for Nkamson Consultancy Company Limited (NCCL) a private consulting firm involved in provision of professional services in a wide range of development and management settings. But also has worked as Senior Planning Officer I at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), Monitoring &Evaluation Manager at NAM Co. Ltd, Assistant Lecturer in Economics and Project Management at Institute of Rural Development Planning (IRDP) and in local government authorities (LGA’s) as Economist where his journey started in July 2008. And this evidences his experience of working for about 12 years (7 years at senior management level).

He has extensive experience of working in areas of training (capacity building), research, planning, monitoring& evaluation, investment & budgeting in development projects and has been actively involved in facilitation, learning and coaching in government entities, projects, INGOs, local CSO’s and business entities especially in maintaining quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards, creating product/service roadmap and marketing strategies, business planning & analysis, information transfer, facilitates growth and sales. But also in project management, strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) of programs, projects, systems, frameworks using approaches i.e. learning through evaluation with accountability and planning (LEAP), outcome and impact oriented planning, monitoring and evaluation (OIO-PME), logical framework approach (LFA), Making market work for the poor (M4P), capacity needs assessment (CNA), organization capacity assessment (OCA), beneficiary capacity assessment (BCA), participatoty learning and action (PLA) and obstacles and opportunities to development (O&OD).

In addition to that he has a strong orientation in areas of integrated water, sanitation and hygiene (iWASH), sexual reproductive health, maternal and childhood nutrition, social&behavior change communication, poverty reduction, governance, decentralization, social protection and gender mainstreaming. Moreover he is conversant in using analytical statistical packages in analyzing and interpreting field data i.e. SPSS, STATA, NVIVO, MICROFIT, WHO Anthro, EPI Info and R-Console but also using planning and M&E software i.e. PlanRep3, LGMD and other mobile application software i.e. MEASURE, SurveyToGo, ODK etc.

As a trainer in Higher Learning Institutions he has been teaching Micro &Macro Economics; Intermediate Micro& Macro Economics; Transport Economics; Health Economics; International Economics; Economic Policy & Planning; Project Planning, Appraisal, Monitoring& Evaluation; Theories& Practice of Development; Project Implementation& Control for both certificates, diplomas, bachelor’s degree and post graduate students. In business arenas he teaches Strategic Planning & Management, Agri-Business Plan Development, Business Strategy& Entrepreneurship Skills, Rural Resilience Coping Strategies, Climate Change Adaptation, Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture, Sustainable& Smart Agriculture, OIO-PME, Result Chain/Framework Approaches, iWASH Management etc.

As a Consultant, he has worked with international organizations including; Legal Service Facility (endline survey for paralegal services), Farm Africa (DECIDE program), Good Neighbors (market research& feasibility study for IGAs), CBM International (feasibility study for eye health project), Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (final evaluation for soil health project), International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), Save the Children International, Save the Children USA (multisector nutritional activity programme), NIRAS-Local Investment Climate (rice value chain analysis) and currently with Global Communities under Agribusiness Investment for Market Stimulation (AIMS) Program funded by United Stated Department of Agriculture (USDA). Also I worked with local institutions and organizations including the Government of Tanzania through its Ministries and Ministerial Department Agencies i.e. Ministry of Education and Higher Learning i.e. IRDP, MUHAS; Ministry of Agriculture i.e. Tanzania Agriculture Research Institute (TARI), Ministry of Health Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MoHCDGEC) i.e. Songwe Regional Referral Hospital, Mvumi Hospital; Rafiki SDO, Kagera Women Empowerment Facility (KAWEF), NGO network for Dodoma (NGONEDO), Counselling and Family Life Organization (CAFLO), Rise Up Integrity for Human Support (RIHS), Kaengesa Environmental Conservation Society (KAESO), Regional Secretariat (RS), Local Government Authorities (LGAs), etc.
